Release 5.1 of Appx is well on the way and we would like to take this opportunity to remind you that ASI's (and CWI's) policy is to support the current major release level of APPX and one level back. This means that once APPX 5.1 is released APPX 4.2.x and all prior releases will be unsupported.
What do we mean when we say that those releases will be unsupported? Typically, the questions that we are asked in relation to customers who are running unsupported releases of APPX are as follows:
Q. Will customers on unsupported releases of APPX be able to continue running APPX?
A. Yes, they will be able to run APPX as normal assuming that they have a valid licence.
Q. What should I do if my customer identifies a bug in an unsupported APPX release?
A. You should report the bug to CWI as you would do if it were a supported released of APPX. If we are aware of a solution or workaround to the bug then we will be happy to pass that information onto you.
Q. What happens if CWI can't offer a solution to a problem that I encounter with an unsupported release? Will the problem be escalated to ASI's technical support team?
A. No, a problem identified in an unsupported APPX release will not be escalated to ASI since ASI will not make bug fixes retroactively to obsolete APPX releases. We will check if the problem has been resolved in the most recent release of APPX and, if it has, then we will recommend that you upgrade the customer to the latest release. If the problem is still outstanding in the latest release of APPX then we will report the problem to ASI and add the problem to BugTracker so it can be fixed in a future release.
Q. Will a customer on an unsupported release of APPX still be able to use the Online Customer Support System (OCSS) to generate an emergency registration if required?
A. Yes, as long as the customer is on current maintenance they will be able to generate an emergency registration via the OCSS.
We recommend that you begin planning to upgrade any customers who are currently running APPX 4.2.x (or lower) to APPX 5.0.4 or 5.1 to ensure that they are eligible for the highest possible level of support.
